3. Charming Village Life: The traditional white houses are interspersed with a labyrinth of winding passages, some barely wide enough for a bicycle. Quaint boutiques offer locally-made products, and family-run rooftop tavernas allow for picturesque views while you eat.

Lindos has plenty to offer for a day trip, but a few days in the local area will give you more time to explore and take in local village life. 

If you’re there for just one day, you must visit the Acropolis, and a venture through the village streets will lead you to some beautiful local buildings.

Explore the Acropolis of Lindos

Perched atop a hill, this ancient fortification offers breathtaking panoramic views of the town and the sparkling Aegean Sea. While the wait and walk can be tiring, there is nothing more impressive than standing where powerful figures once stood, surrounded by the ruins of incredible architecture that once reached the heavens.

Insider Tips:

• There’s no need to book upfront. The entrance fee is around €12, a small price for such a wealth of history.
• The climb to the top can be steep, so wear comfortable shoes. Your feet will thank you!
• Plan your early morning or late afternoon visit to avoid the midday heat and crowds. The views at these times are particularly stunning. We once visited at midday, and the queue to enter took over an hour in the intense heat, so plan your day in advance.

Explore the Village of Lindos

Take a leisurely stroll through the white-washed village of Lindos. Its narrow, winding streets are brimming with quaint shops, traditional houses, and a unique charm that’s distinctly Lindos.

Insider Tips:

• The village is free to explore, so take your time and soak in the atmosphere. Take any turn and venture off the main streets to see what wonders you can find.
• Don’t miss the chance to try local delicacies at the family-run tavernas. Ice cream and gelato shops in the village are particularly good.
• Make a point to visit the 15th-century Church of Panagia. A 500-year-old Byzantine church with well-preserved frescoes.

Dine with a View

Folklore Museum of Lardos Village

Immerse yourself in local history at the Folklore Museum in nearby Lardos Village. It’s a fascinating journey into the past just a little outside Lindos.

Is Lindos expensive?

Lindos offers a range of experiences to suit all budgets. While dining at a rooftop restaurant or a luxury hotel can be a little more expensive, there are plenty of affordable options.

We found a rooftop taverna right in the centre of the village. Yet, the prices didn’t seem any different to anywhere else in Rhodes, so there are reasonable prices if you look out for them.

You can find budget-friendly accommodations, eat at local tavernas, and enjoy free activities like exploring the village or relaxing at the beach.

Helpful recommendations

Here are some tips to make your trip to Lindos even more enjoyable:

1. Start Early or Late: The Acropolis can get crowded, so it’s best to visit early in the morning or at 3pm or later. We found that the queue can extend for over an hour at midday but quickly fades from 2pm onwards.
2. Stay Hydrated: The Greek sun can be intense, especially in the summer. Make sure to drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen. The small streets in the centre provide a lot of shade, but walking up to the Acropolis requires a couple of bottles of water for the trip.
3. Wear Comfortable Shoes: The streets of Lindos are steep and can be slippery, so comfortable shoes are a must.
4. Respect the Donkeys: Donkeys are often used to carry tourists to the Acropolis, but climbing on foot is better for animal welfare reasons. There might be more money to make selling carrots to children to feed the donkeys rather than trying for hours to sell one ride, but that won’t stop vendors from following you up the hill until you stop to catch your breath.
5. Try the Local Cuisine: Don’t miss the local Greek dishes. The food in Lindos is fresh, delicious, and a highlight of the trip.
